| A drop in bathtub is exactly what it sounds like,
it's a bathtub that will drop into a pre built box. This pre built box
can be framed with wood or metal and then tiled over to create a large
elegant bathtub. Drop in bathtub come in many different colors, shapes and sizes, some of these bathtubs can be rather large and can end up using lots of water to fill them up.  These bathtubs can be ordered with or without whirlpool features. Some of the larger tubs will have more jets and powerful pumps. Now here is one the most important things to remember if you're going to be installing a drop in bathtub your self or hiring a contractor. Some of these cast iron bathtubs are extremely heavy by themselves, once you fill them up with water they can put a heavy load on the floor framing. If you're planning on installing a large bathtub, you might look into reinforcing the floor framing underneath the bathtub. Large acrylic drop in bathtubs are easily handled by a couple of people and are not that heavy but could be awkward to carry. However don't forget that water weighs a lot and if you're installing the bathtub over wood framing, you should think about reinforcement. |
